Peace and tranquility in idyllic rural setting

The Swallow's Nest is simply a delightful place to stay, and wonderful reflection of the rural landscape, with breath-taking views if the Green Mountains in Brandon. The Swallow's Nest itself is tastefully appointed, with all amenities to allow the guest the option of enjoying a peaceful retreat from the everyday distractions of life. The old restored farm deserves a full feature spread in Vermont Life, as this place represents a step back in the agrarian way of life that is genuine Vermont. The hosts - the Des Marais are gracious and very accommodating, and quick to point to area attractions that make Brandon such a unique and picturesque Vermont town. I would stay there again at a moments notice and recommend this guest house to anyone.

How extremely kind. We adore our Farm and are working incredibly hard to restore the buildings, foundations and gardens one project at a time. We love sharing this Vermont beauty with others. We loved having you. Please do come again!!

Enchanting and good for the soul

We loved The Swallow's Nest! The farm is a beautiful, special place. The well-equipped Guest House is charming, open to view nature all around, so picturesque and comfortable. The stunning mountains, pond with honking geese and heron, flower pots and gardens, wind chimes, starry moonlit skies at night and quiet are part of its magic. The barns and lovely dreams unfolding have inspired us. We took walks, read books, cooked meals, and just enjoyed the scenery. We were perfectly happy without going anywhere else, but nearby Brandon is a great town with good restaurants and shops. Also, within a short drive are Middlebury and state parks, excellent hiking trails, lakes and waterfalls, biking and boating. Lyn and Jim are organic farmers with a wonderful story and very kind. We felt privileged to share in their special world, a 1200-acre organic farm all to ourselves. Thank you for the little touches of pancakes, eggs and bacon and a welcoming spirit. We hope to come back and follow your story!

We think it's pretty special too and we're so glad to share it with the two of you who enjoyed and appreciated it.

Lovely well maintained cottage

The property is clean, very well maintained on incredibly beautiful land. We enjoyed the privacy and the amazing views from inside the cabin. The kitchen is well stocked & we were happy to find it has a Keurig coffee maker. The kitchen has plenty of utensils, pots & pans etc. Having the washer & dryer was a huge bonus. The beds are all on the second floor. When you get to the top of the stairs, the two twin beds are immediately to the right and a private bedroom with the queen sized bed is to your left. The air conditioner on the 1st floor cooled the 1st floor very well. I was thrilled to find that the very long leather couch in the living room is incredibly comfortable and I slept there. My husband didn't mind the slightly warmer 2nd floor and said the bed was quite comfortable. There are two casement windows opposite each other on the 2nd floor so if there's a breeze you'll get some airflow. We look forward to staying there again. Thank you Lyn!

Thank you for this wonderful review. We love sharing our farm and the Nest with others and love appreciative guests. There’s a rhythm and flow to the days and seasons that can only be experienced when you’re here. Although we’ve had a lot of rain the night skies on clear nights are full and the Milky Way arches right over the house and Swallows Nest. Please do visit and stay with us again!

Charming, well kept, fully stocked, and perfect for a couple's getaway. The view is stunning, and even though it's magnificently secluded, it's still only a couple minutes away from the town center. Highly recommend!

We love having you. See you next summer.

Beyond Description............

..........but worth a try. The Swallows Nest is surely the best kept country getaway secret in New England. If you don't like privacy in the most idyllic setting imaginable, don't come. However, if an immaculate private residence in the heart of the Green Mountains hosted by the most gentile and caring owners appeals to you, look no further. It is set in Brandon, a greatly overlooked small town that is rich in history and populated by friendly natives. Visit the local pub and have a smile when you learn places like this still exist. It is convenient to Boston and Montreal, but you will not want to leave. Time spent at The Swallows Nest was the most welcome and enjoyable experience I can describe.

We loved having you!!!! You were the perfect guest, loving everything Brandon and our farm have to offer.

Vermont countryside dream vacation close to Middelbury!

This is THE place to stay. I felt like I dreamed it up and it appeared! I was looking for a private getaway in a scenic vermont setting without the B and B crowds and the limitations of a cramped hotel room.

It is a gorgeous two floor guesthouse that you can rent all to yourself in the heart of acres and acres of peaceful, lush, bucolic farmland - overlooking a beautiful beaver pond with nothing but the sound of the birds and the sound of silence.

The guesthouse is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished with wooden floors, tons of light and views of the pond from several sides of the house. It also has its own completely stocked kitchen with appliances and refrigerator. (Groceries are about five mins away by car). It has a door that opens onto a patio that overlooks the beaver pond with a sweet little tree you can sit under and a table for eating your meals outdoors or just gazing at the stars.

The host is warm, welcoming and non intrusive- a perfect combination for a vacation if you want privacy. The guesthouse is located a few feet away from her main house so that there is space and privacy.

I stayed here because I wanted to be in nature and away from the bustle of town. It's located in the adorable town of Brandon which has a few restaurants, a bookstore, an ice cream store and a precious gourmet food shop and is only a 25 minute drive from Middlebury and Rutland (where you can rent a car).

I would definitely return to the Swallow's Nest for a tranquil one person or two person romantic getaway any time of year!!!

Thank you. We love it here. We enjoy sharing it.

Secluded and beautiful!

Thank you so much for your hospitality and for providing such a wonderful facility in The Swallows Nest. The setting is magnificent, picturesque, peaceful and serene. And the accommodations are equal to the best hotels; new, clean, and beautifully appointed. We look forward to spending time there again next summer.
Being from Florida, we truly appreciate the mountains, open spaces, and remote feeling, even though you are close to town.
Your restoration of the barns and buildings add to the beautiful setting.

Thank you. Our housekeeper ( mainly me) works hard to keep it perfect. We are so lucky to live here.

Beautiful in every way!

This is such a special place. It is quite close to town and easy to find, but you really feel you are out in the middle of the country. The properties are fun to explore and the fields are fun to hike. The guest house is cozy with plenty of room and tastefully furnished- everything you need and more. The proprietor, Lyn, is charming and welcoming but not intrusive-- a perfect host.

Thank you. Please come back soon. We add improvements every year.

Perfect Escape

I stayed at the Swallow's Nest with my girlfriend and it was incredibly nice. The guest house is immaculate and quaint, the perfect VT getaway. Lyn is so sweet and made us feel like we were at home. We would definitely go back.

Breakfast at Sheri's Diner is a must. Load up on the pancakes, french toast and hash

Sadly Sheri's diner is no more. However, a young lady named Erin, bought a building and the business so it's across the street now. Brandon was recently in 2017, named the coolest town in Vermont. Come visit often!!!
